Photographed in German Town in Atyrau, Kazakhstan this colonial style wooden architecture seems out of place in this ex soviet country but many Germans were exiled to this area in Kazakhstan by Stalin in the 1940's due to fears of collaboration with Nazis during WWII. They created their own communities retaining their culture and architecture such that many ethnic Germans still remain in the country.
